Abstract

692,357. Valves. SPIRAX-SARCO, Ltd. July 23, 1951 [April 21, 1950], No. 9810/50. Class 135 A valve for mixing fluids or dividing a fluid comprises two co-axial ported sleeves 9, 10, housed within a casing 2, 3 respectively on opposite sides of a central chamber 6, each sleeve accommodating a ported hollow core 19, 20 and means for relatively rotating the cones and sleeves so that as the ports in one sleeve and core open, the ports in the other correspondingly close. The cores are secured to a spindle 26 and rotated against a spring 33 by a thermal element 34 in the chamber 6 and/or by an element external to the casing. The sleeves are formed by rods 13 secured at one end by studs 16 in carriers 14 and at the other by studs and convex bosses 18 engaging carriers 15, while the cores are formed by rods 28 secured at one end by studs 30 in carriers 29 and at the other by studs and bosses 31 in hub flanges 22. The rods are machined on one side to provide the sleeves and cores with flush coincident surfaces, and may be machined on the other side to give streamlined surfaces. The sleeve and/or the core ports may be curved, and the thermal element may act through a cam or ]ever system. The sleeves may rotate instead of the cores.
