Abstract

692,104. Pipe couplings. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd. Aug. 15, 1951 [Aug. 22, 1950], No. 20803/50. Class 99 (i). A coupling for the tail pipe of a gas turbine comprises a pair of flanged coupling members 14, 16 having a number of circumferentially spaced brackets 18, 24 carrying co-operating links 19 and bell-crank levers 22 respectively, the levers being actuated by the contraction of an encircling band 12 to draw the coupling members together. Each lever has a hooked arm 27 engaged by a pin 21 of the U-shaped link 19, and an arm 25 which lies parallel to the joint axis and has a hole 26 through which the band passes. The ends of the band have a hook and eye fastening 31, Fig. 5, and a turnbuckle 28. The band is kept clear of the pipe by rollers 33, 34 engaging a plate 35 secured to the member 16. The coupling members 14, 16 have tapered sockets engaging an olive 17, Fig. 3, which has a greater co-efficient of expansion than that of the coupling members.
