Class 38 (v) A lever-operated switch comprises a moving i nsulating contact carrier 34 with an upstanding horn 38 directly engaged by the forked end 22 of the operating lever 18, which, when "thrown" from one position to the other, moves the carrier 34 rectilinearly in a recess in the switch base 10, this movement being initially opposed by, and then assisted by, a pivoted telescopic spring plunger. The latter has a sleeve part 29 with pivots 27 engaging in grooves 26 in the switch base, a compression spring 30 and a pin 31 with a domed head 32 engaging in a recess in the under surface of the contact carrier 34. This contact carrier has metal plates 35, 36 on its upper and lower surfaces, the plates being insulated from one another by the carrier and having contact tongues (not shown) which extend on the side faces of the carrier and co-operate with fixed resilient contact blades extending along the sides of the recess in the base from terminal posts (not shown). An insulating plate 39 is interposed between the contact carrier and the metal bridge piece 17 on which the lever is pivoted. The Specification describes a switch in which the contact tongues and fixed contacts are disposed so that the switch functions as an "intermediate" switch, though it may be arranged to function as a single pole, double pole or two-way switch.
