Abstract
691,849. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 26, 1951 [Nov. 29, 1950], No. 27683/51. Class 38 (ii). In a transformer with a forced flow fluid cooling system, resistances to the flow are provided in the flow paths to control the division of flow between the paths. A transformer comprises a laminated core with yokes 4, 5 and legs 2, 3 round which are the windings 7, 11, 14 mounted on insulated cylinders 6, 9, 12 which may carry collars such as 8, 10 to divert the oil flow through the windings. The oil flow over the several windings from inlet 23 to outlet 24 is controlled by the number and size of the holes 28, 29, 30 in a baffle-plate 21 extending across the transformer casing, and on which the insulating cylinders 6, 9, 12 rest. Oil also passes through a duct 17 in the centre of the core to an extent determined by holes 32, 33, 34 in a wooden lining 26 and hole 37 leading to compartment 25 communicating with the core duct. The values of flow resistance through the various holes may be such as to swamp the resistances to flow through the paths if these are unknown, or to add suitably to these resistances if known.
