Abstract
Barium and/or strontium titanate is prepared by heating the appropriate titanyl oxalate which has been obtained by prescription from an aqueous solution of a titanyl oxalate by the addition of the corresponding salt or salts. Specified salts and the hydroxides, chlorides and nitrates. A minor amount of another divalent metal, e.g. lead may also be present. In examples, ammonia is added to a titanium tetrachloride soltuion the precipitate formed is washed, added to a solution of oxalic acid and the titanyl oxalate treated with the appropriate salt.ALSO:A refractory composition having barium and/or strontium titanate as its principal constituent is prepared by heating the appropriate titanyl oxalate which has been obtained by precipitation from an aqueous solution of a titanyl oxalate by the addition of a divalent metal salt or salts. Specified salts are p hydroxides, chlorides and nitrates of strontium, barium and lead. Binders, e.g. paraffin wax or gelatine may be added for dry pressing. Fluorides and fluxes e.g. bentenite may also be present.
