Abstract
691,212. Cutter heads. TONG, M. P. Oct. 25, 1951 [Oct. 25, 1950], No. 25995/50. Class 145 (i). A cutting head comprising a rotatable block having detachably mounted cutters projecting from the periphery has dovetail recesses in balanced symmetry, the recesses opening into one end face and extruding only partly through the thickness of the head, and cutter-retaining wedges co-operating with the recesses to form spaced and inclined clamping edges at an angle .to the head axis. The wedges 8 fit slidably in the dovetail recesses 6 to grip the cutters 9 when urged thereto by the screw bolt 14 passing through a countersunk hole 15 and engaging a tapped hole 16. The head 19 of the bolt is engaged by a key through the hole 20. As a further retaining device, a bush may fit in the counterbore and be held therein by a taper pin. The wedges are restrained from outward movement by screws 23 engaging the floor of the recess and passing through slots 24 in the wedges. A hole 12 is provided to enable a drift to be used on the cutters. Specification 647,437 is referred to.
