Abstract
690,723. Pit props. DIRECTIE VAN DE STAATSMIJNEN: IN LIMBURG. March 13, 1951 [March 17, 1950], No. 6030/51. Class 20(ii) [Also in Group XXX] A pit prop has an adjustable head portion comprising a hollow member 6, 9 in screw threaded engagement with the internally threaded upper end 4 of the prop and a separate head plate 11 having a part-spherical bearing surface co - operating with a similar surface 10 on the member 6, 9 the head plate 11 being loosely coupled to the member 6, 9 by a tie bolt 13 passing axially through the latter to permit articulation of the head plate 11 in any direction, and its adjustment in height without being rotated by rotation of the member 6, 9. The members 4 and 6, 9 are provided with double trapezoidal threads and a ring 18 welded to the top of the prop prevents the head portion from being screwed entirely out of the prop and serves to protect the screw threads from coal dust.
