Abstract
690,654. Counting-apparatus. ENGLISH NUMBERING MACHINES, Ltd. April 2, 1951, No. 7644/51. Class 106 (i). A counting device comprises a counting mechanism having a plurality of number wheels arranged for rotation around a common axis, the counting mechanism being actuable by means of a reduction gear having a plurality of epicyclic trains arranged for operating in cascade and mounted on a common spindle parallel to the axis of the number wheels, a driving-shaft being provided for actuating the counting mechanism, the said driving-shaft being parallel to the common spindle and the axis of the number wheels. Each epicyclic train comprises two members 30, 31, Figs. 2 and 4, mounted on a spindle 16. The member 30 carries a gear-wheel 32 and is forked at 33, Fig. 5, to embrace a spindle 34. The member 31 has an internally-toothed ring 35 with which the wheel 32 meshes. The drive from the shaft 4, Fig. 2, is transmitted via the gear 13 to a gear 14 which is on the shaft 16 and which is integral with an eccentric hub 371, Fig. 4, on which the member 30 and gear 32 of the first epicyclic train is mounted. The members 31 of the first three trains are fixed to eccentric hubs 371 on which the members 30 of the last three trains are mounted respectively. The member 31 of the last train is fixed to a cylinder 381 rotatable on the spindle 16 and carrying a gear 17 which through the gear train 18, 19, 20, Fig. 2, drives the counter 5.
