Abstract

690,433. Photographic materials. OZALID CO., Ltd., and MURRAY, H. D. April 19, 1951 [May 4, 1950], No. 11101/50. Class 98 (ii). A light-sensitive emulsion or like lightsensitive layer is overcoated with a molten thermoplastic material (e.g. polyethylene), which is insoluble in water and most organic solvents, does not wet paper, and melts at a temperature not greatly exceeding 100‹ C., say lower than 150‹ C. The support may be porous (e.g. of paper or cloth) and may be sensitized with a diazotype composition. Paper coated with an aqueous diazotype sensitizing solution containing either 2-diazo-1-naphthol-5- sulphonic acid, nickel sulphate, thiourea, phloroglucinol, citric acid, sodium chloride, and saponin or p-diazodiphenylamine sulphate, thiourea, R-salt, naphthalenetrisulphonic acid, and glycerol is dried, supercoated with fused polyethylene (e.g. " Alkathene ", Registered Trade Mark), and passed over a chilled roller. The exposed material is developed with ammonia vapour.
