Abstract
A method of making a pneumatic tyre having plies of transverse cords comprises (a) building the tyre undersize, (b) vulcanizing the bead zones to fix the cords against slippage, (c) expanding the tyre to stretch the cords, (d) finally vulcanizing the complete tyre whilst the cords are in stretched condition. The preliminary vulcanizing (b) is effected in a corresponding undersize mould before transferring the tyre to a larger shaping and vulcanizing mould for carrying out steps (c) and (d).
