Abstract

689,997. Spectacle frames. CHAPPELL, N. W. Jan. 15, 1952 [Jan. 15, 1951], No. 1068/51. Class 97 (i). In spectacles for reading &c. having lenses of a small depth in the vertical direction the lenses are held in the marginal rim members of a frame comforming to the outline of their lower edges, by bands which are thin relative to the marginal members and which accordingly do not obstruct forward vision appreciably. As shown in Fig. 3, the lenses 26 are held in the lower portions of rims 22 by cords 28 of nylon engaging grooves in the upper edges of the lenses and passing through holes in the frame to be secured by knotting. Alternatively, metal wires may.be used, their ends secured by wedges in holes in the frame, or metal bands grooved to fit over the bevelled upper edges of the lenses. Alternatively, bands may encircle the lenses, their ends being secured by set screws or the like which screw to hold the bands in the frame. The upper portions 25 of the lens rims may be omitted.
