Abstract

689,934. Vehicle wheels. KELSEY-HAYES WHEEL CO. Jan. 31, 1951 [Feb. 27, 1950], No. 2424/51. Classes 144 (i) and 144 (ii). A wheel and detachable-rim device comprises two sets 21, 26 of angularlyspaced abutments on the wheel for engaging the inner and outer sides respectively of an annular gutterforming bead 8 at one edge of the rim 6, and adjustable clamps associated with the abutments, both sets of clamps being actuated by means at one side only of the wheel. The rim is assembled by first positioning over the fixed abutments 21 on the spokes 3, and then swinging the diametricallyopposite portion of the rim into engagement with coned seatings on the abutments 26 of the spokes 4. Fitted through the abutments 21, 26 are bolts 34, 37, respectively, by means of which the rim is secured in operative position. The bolts 34 have T-heads 30 with coned surfaces 31 which are forced into locking- engagement with the mating-surface of the rim-bead 8. The bolts 37, having heads 42 engaging the inner ends of the abutments 26, carry clamps 36 which are thrust against the outer faces of the abutments, by nuts 38, to force the rim-bead axially inwards over the coned seats of the abutments.
