Abstract

689,686. Cartons opened by rip-cords. VIVIAN, G. S. July 14, 1950 [July 14, 1949], No. 18622/49. Classes 18 and 66 A carton is made from two blanks, each folded to form a hollow rectangular shell open at one end and fitting one within the other, the open end of the inner shell being covered by the closed end of the outer, whereupon the open end of the outer shell is folded at 12 and sealed by inserting a flanged square, sealing being effected with thermoplastic adhesive. A rip-cord 16, preferably secured to the sheet material before the blanks are cut out enables an upper portion of the outer shell to be removed and such portion may be re-applied as a lid. A tabpart 17a of the outer shell, bounded by lines of perforations 17 facilitates opening by the rip-cord 16. The blanks are so folded that triangular flaps 5c<SP>1</SP> lie against two of the sides. Instead of the ripcord 16 there may be a single or a double line of perforations.
