Abstract

689,344. Knitting-machines. HEMPHILL CO. Jan. 10, 1951. [March 17, 1950] No. 741/51. Class 74 (ii). At pre-determined time in the knitting operation, a pusher 1 engages idle yarns 3 which have become wound together and pushes them downwardly in the needle cylinder, to draw additional yarn through each yarn lever and thus lessen the twist adjacent the yarn levers, so that any yarn lever can drop its yarn into needle-taking position without interference from another yarn. A rod moving downwardly to bring an elastic yarn lever 19 out of action on the completion of a stocking top, is given a momentary additional downward movement to bring the pusher 1 into the operative position (full line, Fig. 1), by means of block 15a on the rod, coacting collar 15 on a parallel rod 14, linkage 11, 9 and slide 4 carrying the pusher. A spring-urged latch engages a pin 23 to hold the pusher in the operative position. The latch is subsequently tripped by a roller 25 on a drum 24, rotating at needle cylinder speed.
