Abstract

689,173. Unpacking. WHITCHER, R. S., and WYATT, G. O. July 6, 1950 [Sept. 6, 1949], No. 23118/49. Class 94(i) [Also in Group XXX] A device for removing eggs from a compartmented tray in a box and subsequently returning them to the tray after treatment, e.g. oiling for export, comprises a frame 6 provided with a lifting hook 19 and carrying a plurality of pairs of wire grippers 8a, 8b, Fig. 4, one for each compartment, which engage and grip the eggs when the device is lowered into the box. A movable inner frame 12, 13 is connected by parallel-motion linkage 30 to the frame 6 and carries a similar number of ejector members 11, each movable substantially vertically between a pair of grippers, which are arranged to release the eggs from the grippers when it is desired to return them to the tray. The inner frame is actuated by a hand lever 16 and is urged to an inoperative position by springs 20. The grippers are carried by brackets 9 on transverse bars 7 of the frame 6, and the ejectors are constituted by rubber discs secured to studs mounted in transverse bars of the inner frame. The device may include a manually-operable plunger which may be moved downwardly to disengage the tray from the eggs when they are lifted from the box.
