Abstract
689,006. Weighing-apparatus. AVERY, Ltd. W. & T. (Williams, L. S.). April 13, 1951. No. 8610/51. Class 143. In a hydraulic weighing scale the load on the platform 1 is transmitted to hydraulic capsules 10 through struts 22 which rest on bearing blocks 21 in sockets 20 secured to the upper capsule plate, and which engage bearing surfaces on blocks 23 secured to the platform 1; all the bearing surfaces being shaped to permit rolling movement of the strut, and horizontal displacement of the platform, without damaging the capsules. As shown, the surfaces on the blocks 21 and the upper ends of the struts are spherical, whilst the surfaces on the blocks 23 and the lower ends of the struts are flat, but in modifications (not shown) other combinations of curved and flat surfaces are described. The curvature of the surfaces and the lengths of the struts are adjusted to produce neutral equilibrium of the platform over a limited range of horizontal displacement. Rubber collars 27 which, when the platform is unloaded, separate the struts from the surfaces on the blocks 23, serve to protect the upper bearing surfaces and provide a restoring force to counteract horizontal movement of the platform. Shrouds 24 prevent ingress ot foreign matter to the lower bearing surfaces. The upper plates of the capsules are interconnected by the usual rigid H frame 17, 18.
