Class 20(iv) Spacers for the reinforcement bars of concrete each consist of a plate-like body 2 of concrete or the like having a hole or aperture which receives the reinforcement 7 and is shouldered at 5 to receive a wedge 6 which bears on, and locks the spacer to, the reinforcement. The aperture may be extended at 4 to the periphery of the spacer and the shoulders are sloped in the direction of the axis of the reinforcement. The wedge may be a flat metal sheet 6 with turned-up sloping flanges 9 to engage the shoulders, or may, as shown in Fig. 7, be a concrete member with sloping flanges 11 and a curved ridge part 12 which is located in the slot 4. Alternatively a flat metal plate is engaged under the shoulders 5 and a set-screw, threaded in the plate, is screwed down on to the reinforcement. In another form, Fig. 14, a sheet-metal member 11 is provided with a half-conical ridge 15 which fits over and slides along the bar 7. In Fig. 15, tongues 17 are struck out of the plate 6 to engage under the sloping shoulders 5. The spacer has an indication 10 on one face to show the direction of introduction of the wedge.
