688,951. Apparatus for examining photographic negatives. SCHONANDER AKTIEBOLAG, G. March 5, 1951 [March 9, 1950], No. 5309/51. Class 98 (ii). [Also in Group XVIII] A frame rack in or for an inspection device for X-ray films comprises several frames 16, each for mounting several films and each movable along the rack to a position in front of the window of an inspection case placed to one side of the rack, and a carriage 6 having several longitudinally-extending parallel tracks 12, 14 on which the frames 16 may run, said carriage being displaceable in a direction normal to the direction of movement of the frames 16 to alter the positions of the frames relatively to the base 4 of the rack. As shown, each frame 16 comprises frame members 18 mounting glass plates 22 across which the films, clipped at 30 to a member 18 and to a cross-piece 20, are held by wires. The upper and lower frame members 18 are provided with trundles 26, 24 which run on the tracks 14, 12 in the carriage 6 which is movable stepwise in a direction normal to the rails when a catch engaged in a recess in a bar 41 on the base 4 is released therefrom by operation of a lever 38 connected to the catch by a cable 40. Such movement of the carriage brings one of the tracks 12, 14 into alignment with a rail extending from an inspection case so that the frame mounted on said track can be moved into position in front of the inspection window of the case. A hinged member 44 and a bar 42 are provided to prevent longitudinal movement of the frames, other than that which is mounted on the track 12, 14 aligned with the rail extending from the inspection case. A scale 48 on the bar 42 and an index 46 on the carriage indicate which frame 16 can be moved longitudinally.
