Class 20(iii) A mechanism for counterbalancing a window. light 1 which is moved vertically into and .out of a well comprises a pair of guide rails 4 inclined towards each other mounted in the well and. lying in a plane parallel to but displaced from the window pane, and a pair of carriages connected by tension springs 15 and each comprising a plate-like member 12 carrying on one side a roller 14 engageable with a guide rail and on the other side a pair of rollers 13 adapted to support the light and move along the bottom edge thereof. The light slides in guides 2 and 3, the latter being fixed, or pivoted at the top end. The rails 4 are cross connected at 6 and 7, located in forked brackets 5, and indented to hold the window in desired positions. A bottom channel 8 on the light has a longitudinal circular groove 9 to receive the rail sections 10 which can hinge to the right from the position shown in Fig. 3, and are spaced apart by a fixed bar 11. This hinging of the rails 10 permits the light to be easily removed from its framing, but. alternatively the rails may be fixed to the channel 8. The springs 15 are enclosed in grease-filled gaiters.
