Abstract

1,244,325. Sliding sash windows. SEASONALL INDUSTRIES Inc. 8 Aug., 1968 [11 Aug., 1967], No. 55325/70. Divided out of 1,244,322. Heading E1J. In a counterbalanced sliding sash window e.g. of the double hung type described in Specification 1,244,322 in order to free the counterbalance 17 from its associated sash guide slide 14 to permit lateral removal of the sash from between its parallel jambs, the slides 14 e.g. of nylon being in each upper corner of the sash, and each counterbalance 17 comprising an elongated housing 114 a tension spring assembly 115 having a sash cord 118 connected thereto and biased by the assembly 115 with the free end of the sash cord 118 extending through an opening 123 in the bottom of the sash guide channel 102 and ending in a hook 121, the counterbalance 17 is positioned within the housing 114 to biasly engage one of the guide slides 14 for travel engagement with the sash, supporting slides 124, 125 are secured to the respective ends of the counterbalance housing 114 for slidable engagement in the sash guide channel 102 and a spring 143 having two selective stable positions, as shown is provided in the bottom of the guide channel near the upper end thereof and, adapted in one of the stable positions to engage the counterbalance 17 to free this latter from its guide slide 14 and permit the removal of the sash. The method of guiding the sash is described in Specification 1,244,324.
