Abstract

838,962. X-ray apparatus. SIEMENSREINIGER-WERKE A. G. April 15, 1958, No. 11981/58. Class 98(1) In an X-ray examination unit in which the couch 7 for the patient is pivoted about a horizontal axis 4 and a stand 26 for supporting an X-ray tube and a luminscent X-ray screen, a cassette, or the like is mounted in a guideway 21 for displacement parallel with the longitudinal axis of the couch when this is in the horizontal position, the couch is supported in the horizontal position by means of a U-shaped support 8 disposed with the open end of the U directed towards the plane in which the stand is displaceable, the supports for the couch pivot and the support 8 being rigidly secured to the guideway 21 and resting on the floor or like surface. As shown, the couch 7 is secured at one end to arms 5, 6 pivoted on a bar 4 between supports 1, 2 braced at 3 and may be latched in the vertical and horizontal positions. A cable 47 supports over a conical pulley 48 connected to a counterbalancing spring 49 a vertical carriage 32 slidable on a rod 56 in the stand 26, the rod passing through a plate 51 pivoted on the carriage and held by the cable against a stop 54 in opposition to a spring 57 (both in Fig. 4, not shown) so that if the cable breaks the plate jams on the rod to prevent the carriage falling. A horizontal carriage 36 is slidably mounted on the vertical carriage perpendicular to the length of the guide 21 and supports by a rotatable pin 38 a guide 39 for a slidable carrier having arms 41, 40 supporting respectively the X-ray tube 43 and a screen or cassette holder 44 which is pivoted at 45 so as to be movable between the full and dotted line positions. Clamps 28, 58, 62 hold the stand 26 and carriages 32, 36 in the selected positions, while a spring latch 71 engages in the chosen one of four equally spaced circumferential notches in a disc on the guide 39, and the holder 44 may be latched in any position between those shown by a window stay device. The X- ray tube 43 may be positioned on either side of the couch 7 when this is in the horizontal position by rotating the guide 39 through 180 degrees through the arms of the U-support 8 when the stand is at that end of the guideway 21, the holder 44 being swung in line with the arm 40. The couch may be provided on its rear face with rails for supporting a carriage for a radioscopic screen or a cassette, which carriage may be locked in any desired position along the couch by engagement with a strip on the couch passing through a latch housing in which are pivoted in grooves a pair of oppositely-inclined spring pressed plates having slots engaging the strip. To free the carriage a spreader rotatably mounted between the plates is turned by grasping a handle on it together with a fixed handle by which the carriage is positioned. The carriage may be rigidly connected to the stand 26.
