Abstract

Relates to a door baffle for a dishwashing machine comprising a vat including top and bottom walls and opposed side walls terminating in an upstanding forwardly directed doorway and a gasketless front door therefor, which machine is of the general character of that disclosed in Specification 681,911. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3 a U-shaped flange 46, of an inner body sheet 45 of a door 42, terminates in a marginal rim 47 which engages against a U- shaped vat rib 40, having a top portion and side legs 41, when the door is in its substantially vertical:closed position. Secured to the inner surface of the flange 46 is a U-shaped baffle 72 which is substantially Z-shaped in cross-section as shown in Fig. 6. The wall 74 of the baffle 72 is secured to the flange 46 by welding or the like and the wall 73 which extends beyond the rim 47 is spaced from the flange 46 by the wall 75. When the door 42 is in its closed position the baffle wall 73 passes through the opening afforded by the U-shaped vat rib 40 into the vat. A U-shaped pocket 78 which is U-shaped in cross-section is thus formed between the vat rib 40 and the baffle 72 when the door is closed. When the machine is in operation a turbulence of washing liquid is created in the pocket 78 and this limits admission of liquid past the door into the doorway. Furthermore the close cooperation of door baffles and vat baffles and the tendency of shearing action between the door baffles and vat baffles described in Specification 681,911 is avoided. The machine includes vat venting means 58, 62, Fig. 2, drain mechanism comprising a raisable and lowerable hose, and vat suspension means in the machine cabinet, all as disclosed in Specification 688,849. The door is hinged within the doorway by hinge means 50, as disclosed in Specification 681,912. The sequence of operations of the machine is effected by an automatic electrical timer as disclosed in Specification 681,925.
