Abstract
688,706. Welded joints. PARSONS & CO., Ltd., C. A., and SINFIELD, D. G. May 17, 1951 [May 30, 1950], No. 13495/50. Class 83 (iv). [Also in Group XXVIII] Two pipes are fusion welded from the outside by depositing a seam of weld metal b, Fig. 2, around the inside of the end d of one pipe a, cutting back angularly the end face of the pipe a from about the middle of the deposited seam b so that the weld metal b forms a backing and locating the angularly cut face g, Fig. 4, of the other pipe f adjacent the end of pipe a to form a gap h in which weld metal is deposited. The seam b and end d are both turned to the shape shown in Fig. 4. The weld metal deposited in the gap h is preferably the same as that of the seam b. The pipe a is placed on the upstream side of the fluid flow within the pipe.
