Abstract
608,477. Making valves. DEWRANCE & CO., Ltd., and STOREY, J. M, Feb. 25, 1946, No. 5821. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Uniting by fusion.-A pipe-line valve main part 1 is cast with nozzles 2, 3, and tubular extensions 4, 5 tapering outwardly from nozzlethickness to pipe-thickness are welded thereto, the extension lengths being sufficient to prevent distortion of the main part 1 when the extensions 4, 5 are welded to the pipe 14, 15. The main part 1 may be of cast steel, and the extensions 4, 5 may be machined from steel tubing, the composite valve is annealed before machining the valve seats &c. and welding into the pipe-line. The Provisional Specification states that a backing ring may be used during welding of the extensions 4, 5 to the nozzles 2, 3.
