Abstract

750,672. Making pipe fittings. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. June 16, 1954 [June 16, 1953], No. 17707/54. Class 83 (2). [Also in Group XXVIII] A method of making a tubular Y-piece comprises securing together two complementary drop-forged parts by welds extending in a plane containing the axes of the tubular parts of the Y-piece, each part including a web extending normally of said plane, the two webs being welded together to form a strengthening ligament. The part 1b is formed with a flat web 7 having a downwardly inclined bevelled top edge 10. The edges 18, 19 and 20 of the piece are also bevelled to form welding grooves 23, 24a and 24b when assembled with a similar part 1a (Fig. 2). An alternative form of part is shown in Fig. 4.
