Abstract

688,157. Screw-cutting. BRIDGES, G. N. Dec. 3, 1951 [Dec. 4, 1950], No. 29607/50. Class 83 (iii). A chaser for tangential mounting in a pipescrewing or like die has a tapered entering end 1 followed by preliminary cutting teeth 3 which also act to pull the die on to the work, and a second tapered portion 4 followed by teeth 5 which effect the final cutting operation and correct any pitch error in the thread cut by the first teeth. The chasers are primarily for cutting tapered threads and are preferably used in dies having mechanism for opening the chasers automatically to produce a tapered thread but they can be used for cutting non- tapered threads.
