Abstract
687,510. Brackets. STEELE, A. B. July 13, 1951 [Aug. 2. 1950], No. 19294/50. Class 52(v) [Also in Group XXV] Brackets for supporting loads from posts are constructed without loose parts and can be fitted to and removed from a post without the use of tools. They are selftightening under load. The post is. embraced by a wire bent to form two U-shaped members 10, 11 united at one end by a welded-on boss or'collar 13. The hook 17 is coiled round the part 12 at 16, has an inwardly projecting part 18, and a postengaging part 19 ending in a section 20 curved to an arc of a circle concentric with the coil 16 so that it may be swung into and out of engagement with the collar 13. The projection 18 is below the plane containing the end 20 and coil 16 and bears against the post. When the load is applied to the hook the projection acts as a fulcrum and the coil 16 tending to slide down the curved part 12 tightens the U- member on the post with a toggle action that is increased by a tendency to twist. In a modification the projection 18 is an L-shaped piece of wire welded by one limb to the part 19.
