Abstract

687,460. Drying in suspension in gaseous currents. BUTTNER-WERKE AKT.-GES. July 17, 1951 [July 19, 1950], No. 16969/51. Class 34 (ii) A method of drying material capable of being kept in suspension in a gaseous medium combines drying the material in suspension in a chamber traversed by hot gases which gases after separation from the material are reheated and returned to the chamber, and stage-drying in which the material is conducted continuously through different individually heated zones, the drying medium being circulated substantially in the individual zones. In the lower part of a dryer housing 1 are blowers 2 and pipes 3 above which are trough-like grates 4 in which centrifuges 5, which assist the transport of the material are rotatable. Above the members 5 is the drying zone proper which is divided into adjacent zones 7 corresponding to the blowers and flaps 8 separate the material-air mixtures so that the material falls down again but the hot gases pass into a duct 9 whence after being heated on elements 10 the gases pass to the blower intakes. The material is caused to move from one zone to the next by baffles or by vanes 12 on a common shaft 11 which drives the centrifuges 5. Material is introduced at 13 and falls on to vanes 12 which convey it to grate 4 where under the action of the device 5 and the hot gases it is brought into a state of suspension and progresses from zone to zone to be discharged dry at 14. The stream of hot gases is introduced at the discharge end of the apparatus so that after having passed through a zone and having been separated and reheated it is partly drawn in by the same blower and part of it passes to the next blower the last blower exhausting the gases to atmosphere.
