Abstract
686,746. Lighting apparatus. WILLIAMS, R. G. Dec. 31, 1949 [Dec. 31, 1948; Dec. 5, 1949], Nos. 33671/48 and 31169/49. Classes 75(ii) and 75(iv) A lighting apparatus particularly for blending light beams of different colours into a single beam comprises at least two opposed truncated conical or pyramidal reflectors 4, 5, Fig. 4, disposed with larger ends remote from each other and so arranged that a portion, e.g. the beam B2, of the light from each of a plurality of lamps, e.g. four lamps R, B, W (not shown), and G (not shown), is reflected from the reflector 4, on to the reflector 5 to be reflected by the latter, while the remainder of the said light, e.g. B1, is transmitted independently of the reflectors 4, 5, so that the several emitted reflected and unreflected portions of all the beams are scrambled but parallel. The lamps R, G, B are provided with red, green, and blue colour filters 3, respectively, so that the final beam comprises intermingled parallel beams of red, green, blue and white light. The reflectors 4, 5 may be symmetical or asymmetrical, and the surfaces thereof may be ribbed, fluted, indented or irregular; and one of the reflectors 4, 5 may be conical and the other pyramidal. To avoid intermingling of the beams R1, B1 undeflected by the reflectors 4, 5, co-axial stepped semi-cylindrical louvres 6 may be provided. In an alternative construction the lamps are provided with parabolic or similar reflectors for projecting parallel beams and are so arranged that the light not reflected by the reflectors 4, 5 passes either outside or both outside and inside the latter. In a further alternative construction shown in Fig. 8, a small reflector 4d is associated with a larger reflector 5d and the unreflected portion B1, R1, &c. of each beam passes between the reflectors. By locating the lamps B, R. &c., closely together the unrenected beams may pass also interiorly of the reflectors. In all constructions the reflecting members may be of transluscent material with internal reflecting surfaces. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification, 646,642.
