Abstract
686,658. Valves. SKINNER CHUCK CO. Nov. 2, 1951 [March 6, 1951], No. 25664/51. Class 135 [Also in Group XXXV] A valve structure comprises a sleeve 17, Fig. 1, a casing 10 having end keyholes 31, and plates 15, 16, Fig. 2, closing the space between the sleeve and casing and having peripheral key studs 30 engaging the holes 31, a coil 14 surrounding the sleeve for operating valve means in the sleeve. The plates carry inlet and outlet nipples 18, 19 and are held against the sleeve ends by clips 35 having points 36 engaging in recesses in the keyholes. The sleeve is preferably non-magnetic while the casing, endplates, nipples, spring-loaded plate 41 holding the coil in position and armature 43 carrying the rubber closure member 48 seating on the coned inner end 28 of the nipple 18 are of magnetic material. Operation by alternating current is facilitated by the electrically conducting shading ring 25 in the nipple 19. The armature, spring-loaded to close the valve. contains a central axial passage 46 leading to crosspassages 47 and peripheral axial grooves 45. In a further embodiment, the valve is normally open.
