Abstract
686,485. Window frames and sashes. POSTRIHAC, R. Oct. 30, 1950 [Oct. 31, 1949], No. 26423/50. Class 20(iii) Window and sash frames made of profiled metal, or plastic, materials are characterized in that window frames are hollow and concave in profile to receive the corresponding convex profiles of the hollow sash frames, elastic packing ledges being provided along the concave and convex edges. A window frame 30 comprising members joined by corner brackets has a concave surface 14, the curvature of which decreases toward the inside of the window in relation to the corresponding outer convex surface 8a of the respective sash frame. Each sash frame is hinged as at 29 and comprises two parts, a front part 7 which may carry rods 21, 22 to lock it to the frame 30 and a removable inner part 8 which carries rods 23 to lock it to the front part, the parts 7 and 8 being recessed to receive panes 11 surrounded by packings 12 and fastened by means of screw-on ledges 13. A cross-pin carried by a turn handle 26 is normally spring urged into engagement with a pivot socket 28 fixed to the rods 21, 22 to operate them, the pin entering a socket fixed to the bars 23 to operate them when the handle is pulled back against the spring. A packing strip 9 is fixed to one part 7 or 8 and extends around the periphery of the respective sash between the parts 7 and 8. Each sash is provided with a stop ledge 19, having an elastic packing 20, on the side remote from the hinged side, and a draining ledge 18 along the lower edge, draining holes 16 being provided in the window frame.
