Abstract

686,252. Handles. DAY, J. H. April 3, 1951 [April 4, 1950], No. 8390/50. Class 61 (i). The handle of a brush or other article comprises two or more telescopically mounted tubular members the outer member having a series of longitudinal spaced openings and the inner member being provided with a pivotally mounted retractable finger which is urged by a resilient element into engagement with any one of the openings to vary the length of the handle. To the inner end of the inner member 11 is secured the reduced end of a bush 14 which is longitudinally slotted to receive the pivoted finger 18 and a rubber block 19 inserted in the slot between the inclined end wall 17 and the finger. The outer member 10 is provided with a series of openings 13 for engagement by the finger 18 and a flange 22 to prevent complete withdrawal of the inner member 11. To disengage the finger the inner member is slightly rotated, the rotation being limited by providing a longitudinal inward projection 20 on the member 10 and a flat on the bush 14. A bush 23 is mounted on the end of the handle by a bayonet joint.
