Abstract
685,916. Reservoir pens. COMPANIA URUGUAYA DE ROMENTO INDUSTRIAL, SOC. ANON. May 30, 1950. [June 7, 1949] No. 15156/49. Class 146 (iii). In a ball-point pen the ball housing is so constructed that wear of the base seat of the ball is compensated, and the ink trace made by the ball is maintained substantially constant for an appreciable period. As shown, the ball housing comprises a base 1, reduced at the end to form a neck 12, which has a part spherical seating 13 for a ball 3. A sleeve 2 has a seating 15 encircling an equatorial zone of the ball, and is slidably mounted on the neck 12 of the base 1. A ring 7 of rubber &c. may be arranged between the faces of the members 1, 2 and bonded thereto, or the co-operating faces of the member 2 and neck 12 may be dovetailed at 8. As the base seat 13 wears, the member 2 automatically moves upwardly along the neck 12, so that the gap size between the ball and the member 2 is maintained substantially constant. The member 1 may have one or more fine slits 10 therein to form ink channels around the ball seating 13, and the member 2 may be provided with a radial cut 9. The sleeve 2 may be of beryllium bronze.
