Abstract

1,067,849. Writing instruments. SCRIPTO PENS Ltd. Nov. 26, 1964 [Dec. 9, 1963], No. 48433/63. Heading B6P. An 0-ring 7 of rubber, an oil-resistant synthetic rubber or a rubber substitute such as polychloroprene, butadiene acrylic nitrile copolymer or a polyurethane, is retained in a groove 5 in the barrel of a fountain pen. A cap 3 is frictionally retained by the 0-ring when in place, as shown. Ducts 6 at diametrally opposite positions in the groove 5, provide vents to prevent the pen from leaking due to changes of atmospheric conditions. The 0-ring may be replaced by a resilient rubber ring not necessarily of circular cross-section, which could be seated in a relatively shallow groove, and cemented in place if necessary.
