684,685. Cylinder head joints. TRIUMPH ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and TURNER, E. Aug. 21, 1950 [Oct. 15, 1949], No, 26525/49. Class 7 (ii). To retain a solid copper or other solid metal gasket 13 from creeping outwardly, the machined joint face of either the cylinder head 15 or block 12 is provided round the cylinder bore with a uniform, continuous or discontinuous groove 14 which is sharp-edged at its edge remote from the bore and into which the gasket protrudes when the cylinder head is tightened down. The groove 14 is preferably co-axial with the cylinder bore, and in the case of cylinders arranged side by side, as in the motor cycle engine shown, adjacent grooves may be mutually tangential, or intersect in the manner of a figure eight. Specification 160,235, [Class 7 (ii)], is referred to.
