1489328 Pistons KARL SCHMIDT GmbH 24 Feb 1976 [26 March 1975] 07314/76 Heading F2T A light-alloy piston 1 has two piston ring grooves 2, 3, the groove 2 nearer the head of the piston having a compression ring 4 having a sharp outside edge on the side nearer the piston skirt, a rounded or chamfered outside edge on the side nearer the piston head and a flat or crowned upper end face and the other groove 3 houses an oil scraper ring 5 having a sharp outside edge on the side nearer the piston skirt, the land between the grooves being 4 to 10 mm. in length. The compression ring 4 may be of nodular cast iron. The upper surface of the oil scraper ring may be chromium plated. The groove 2 may be reinforced by a steel element G.
