Abstract
684,163. Endless conveyers. CHARROLD, Ltd. Feb. 14, 1951. [Nov. 14, 1949] No. 29131/49. Class 78 (i). A conveyer comprises a main belt which conveys the material, and a plurality of spaced co-extending V-belts on which the separate main belt is supported for a part or the whole of its upper run, the V- belts being supported on V-pulleys the shaft of at least one of which is driven so as to impart drive to the V- helts and thus to the main belt. The main belt 1 is thus driven by a plurality of narrow bands 2, Figs. 1 and 11, mounted on sets of pulleys 3, 4, fixed on shafts 5. 6 repectively. A motor disposed within the conveyer framework drives shaft 6 through a chain and sprocket connection, Fig. 1. Screw means 23 are used to tension both the bands 2 and the belt 1, the latter thereby being pressed against the bands. Pulleys 4 are larger than pulleys 3 so that the belt is pressed into contact with the bands 2 over nearly the whole length of the latter. The pulleys in cach set may be of varying diameters to give a convex or concave form to the belt 1, Fig. 11, or alternatively the pulleys can be the same size and the bands 2 may be of varying height. The bands 2 may be joined together at their outer faces to form a belt surface on which the belt 1 is supported. Pulleys 10, Fig. 4, may be provided alternately with the pulleys 4 and further narrow bands 9 are mounted on these and corresponding pulleys 11, so that several sets of narrow bands may extend the whole length of the conveyer. Transverse bars 15, Fig. 11, mounted on auxiliary lateral bands 14 driven by further pulleys 12 on each of the pulley shafts assist in conveying on inclines. The narrow bands also may have serrated outer faces if desired to increase their grip. Each pulley may consist of two halves 19, 20, Fig. 16 having bosses which are screw-threaded one on the other so as to vary the distance between them tu accommodate wear of the bands 2. A lock-nut 18 secures the halves in position. The inner side of the band 1 is cleaned as it passes around one end set of pulleys 3x, Fig. 4, by jets of air issuing from a transverse tube 17, located just below the narrow bands and provided with orifices directing the jets between the narrow bands.
