Abstract
684,040. Photographic paper. CASSIO PHOTOGRAPHIC PAPER CO., Ltd. March 20, 1951 [April 25, 1950], No. 10203/50. Class 98 (ii). [Also in Group VIII] A photographic light-sensitive paper is prepared by applying to a paper base a coating of a dispersion of barium sulphate in a film-forming medium, e.g. gelatin or polyvinyl alcohol, bringing the outer surface of the coating into contact with a smooth highly-polished casting surface, setting and drying the coating while in contact with the surface, separating the coated paper from the surface, supercoating with one or more coatings of fluid gelatino silver halide photographic emulsion, and setting and drying the emulsion coating or coatings. In a continuous process the barium sulphate dispersion is fed into the nip between a heated revolving drum and the paper base, the paper is allowed to revolve with the drum for part of a revolution and is then continuously stripped off. If the casting surface is metal 0.1-1 per cent of a wetting agent, and if glass 0.1-1 per cent of a cationic wetting agent may be added to the dispersion, which may also include chrome alum, citric acid, glycerine, or dyestuffs. 35-60 grms. dry weight per sq. metre is a suitable dispersion coating. Specifications 331,578, 522,828 and 575,254, [all in Group VIII], are referred to.
