Abstract

684,000. Seats; resilient mountings. LYNN-JONES, D. Sept. 26, 1951, No. 22457/51. Classes 52(i) and 52(ii) The back of a chair comprises spaced side members each having an upper forwardly extending portion and means are provided for detachably connecting the upper end of a flexible seat member alternatively to said portions or to the side members at a position below and behind said portions so as to hold the occupant in either an upright or reclining position. As 'shown the side members are formed of tubular metal and are shaped as shown to provide a resilient support. The flexible seat member 5 may alternatively be connected at its upper end to a cross member 2 or a cross member 6 while the lower end is connected to a cross member 4 at the front end of the seat. Clips 7 are provided as connections for the flexible seat member and comprise a flat portion 7a, a looped portion 7b and two further looped portions 7c, 7d. The member 5 is stitched or otherwise secured at spaced parts to rods 9, 10 which, with the secured parts of the flexible member 5 are threaded through .the loops 7c, 7d. In order to enhance the resilience of the frame the portions 1a, 1b are of smaller cross section than the intermediate portion 1c. Wooden arm rests are provided.
