Abstract

683,979. Brushes for dynamo electric machines. LE TOURNEAU, Inc., R. G. Aug. 29, 1950 [Sept. 24, 1949], No. 21334/50. Class 35. In a slip-ring brush arrangement for a dynamo-electric machine, the brush 4, which has a substantially ring shape surrounding the rotor shaft, is located between its holder 2 and a radially faced slip-ring 5. Fig. 1 shows two slip-rings 5, 5a L-shaped in cross-section with their respective brushes 4 which are resiliently spaced apart by springs 39 and which are accommodated in annula recesses formed in the brush holders 2, 2a. Fig. 3 shows the mounting arrangement of one brush and its holder 2. The brush is split at 40 to facilitate installation and the holder has two diametrically opposed ears 9 having counterbores 11 to seat the springs 39. The brush holders 2, 2a are secured against rotation by studs 7 passing through corresponding bores 10, 10a. The perimeter of each brush is enclosed within two walls of a holder and two walls of a slip-ring so that dirt &c. is kept out from metal surfaces contacting the brush.
