Abstract
529,727. Dynamo-electric machines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 20, 1939, No. 15061. Convention date, May 20, 1938. [Class 35] A dynamo electric machine with a frictional driving connection and a shaft journalled in end hubs on the stator has clamping arms, pivotally supported on the base member at a point eccentric to the motor axis and embracing the outer surfaces of the hubs, and resilient means between the base and arms to maintain the required friction in the driving connection. In the belt-drive motor shown, each of the bearing hubs is flattened at 16 and is surrounded by a resilient annulus 18 extending into grooves 17 and the ring 18 is, in turn, surrounded by a slotted metal band 19. The hub is embraced by clamping arms 21, 22 pivoted at 26 to upward extensions 23 of the base 24 and arcuate projections 33 on the arms extend through the slotted band 19 to press the resilient member 18 on to the hub. The arms 21, 22 are held together by rings 35 and their outward motion, when opened, is limited by abutment. on inwardly directed lugs 40 on the extensions 23. A spring 38 is secured at its ends to the base and to one or other of the arms to bias the stator and tension and belt in either direction, according to the. side of the motor on which the driven machine is placed.
