Abstract
221,591. Kostenko, M., and Japolsky, N. June 26, 1933. Alternating-current commutator Machines; commutators and collecting-rings; brush-holders. -An alternating-current commutator machine has the stator windings S, Fig. 1, connected through slip-rings Q to the segments of a commutator K, driven with the rings at a speed proportional to that of the rotor R, the brushes of the commutator being connected through sliprings B to the rotor windings, the other extremities of which are connected to the machine terminals. The potential around the commutator varies as a curve of which the complete wave length or period is the circumference of the commutator. but a multiple connection from each ring may be employed, together with a step-down drive for the rings and commutator, whereby several complete potential cycles may be obtained around the commutator. Fig. 2 shows this method in which each of the rings Q is connected to three commutator segments 120‹ apart in a bipolar machine, the rings and commutator being geardriven at one-third of the speed of the rotor. Two separate stator windings may be employed, each with its slip-rings and commutator, these being connected to the rotor in series or parallel. Figs. 5 and 6 show means for mounting the sliprings in a common plane. The rings fare carried by discs A, B having cavities e through which the connecting-leads are brought to grooves between the discs and the shaft F. The brushes are carried by holders g, h mounted on each side of the discs. The invention may be applied to alternating-current commutator generators of the type described in Specification 210,482.
