Apparatus for polishing complex surfaces of a workpiece, e.g. the vane surfaces of an impeller wheel, comprises a work supporting fixture having a base 10a and a support post 10b on top of which the workpiece W is secured by a clamping plate 11 and locking nut 12; by loosening the clamp the workpiece can be angularly indexed to position any vane surface V in the polishing position. A frame 13, either separate from the work fixture as shown or incorporated in a unitary mounting therewith, has an upstanding tubular support 13c in the top of which is rotatable the stem 14a of a yoke 14; a yoke element 17 has the opposed arms thereof journalled in the upstanding arms 14b, 14c of the yoke 14, and a support tube 16 is threadably secured to the stem portion of the yoke element 17. A wheel supporting flange 18a is secured to one end of a rod 18b slidable and rotatable in the support tube 16, a collar 18c on the rod limiting its movement into the tube 16. The flange 18a has a shaft 19 on which is journalled a grooved pulley 20, retained by a head 19a on the shaft, driven by a resilient belt 21 passing over pulleys 23, 23 journalled on the opposed arms of yoke 17 and around pulley 22 keyed to the shaft by driving motor M mounted on the frame 13. A handle 24 is secured to the rod 18b. A pad 30 of rubber or similar material is cemented or otherwise secured to the face 20a of the pulley 20; the outer face 30a of the pad 30 is spherical and has cemented thereto a sheet of abrasive material 31.
