A primary object of this invention is to provide means wherein there is absolute rigidity in its working parts for the refacing operation so that the wheel can be dressed to absolute perfection which is essential in the line art of grinding stones. The stones are normally held on the end of a stick-like object with wax and then touched to the wheel, but if the wheel has any rough spots on it whatsoever, it has a tendency to knock the stone off the stick or holder.
Another object of this invention is the provision of means facilitating the manual regulation of movement of the diamond tip over the face of the grinding wheel.
The above and other objects of this invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art after a careful consideration of a preferred embodiment of this invention taken together with the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a side elevational view of the device;
FIG. 2 is a plan view thereof;
FIG. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of FIG.
FIG. 4 is a sectional view taken on line 44 of FIG.
FIG. 5 is a sectional view taken on line 5-5 of FIG.
FIG. 6 is a sectional view taken on line 6-6 of FIG. 2;
FIG. 7 is a sectional view taken on line 7-7 of FIG. 2; and
FIG. 8 is a sectional view taken on line 8-8 of FIG. 2.
Referring in detail to the drawing, there is shown a shaft leading to a grinding wheel 22 mounted thereon which is partially covered by a wheel housing 24. Thumb screws 26 are threadedly mounted in the arced members 28 of a frame 30 and engage both sides of housing 24 firmly securing frame 30 thereto. A brace 32 having a slotted transverse leg 34 extending from each end thereof and a brace 36 having a slotted transverse leg 38 extending from each end thereof are slidably and pivotally mounted to arced member 28 firmly counterbalancing the force exerted on arced members 28 by thumb screws 26 as they are screwed tight against housing 24.
Mounted between the ends of arced members 28 opposite from the end where members 28 are secured to housing 24 is a guide frame 40 comprising side members 42 parallel with and adjacent the surface of members 28 and angle beams 44 facing each other and connected between corresponding ends of side members 42. A positioning block 50 rests on the horizontal legs 52 of angle beams 44 and has a pair of sides thereof in slidable engagement with the vertical legs 54 of angle beams 44. Rotatably mounted between opposing members 28 and 42 and having its axis transverse therewith is a threaded rod 56 which has a handle 58 secured thereto for rotation thereof and which is threadedly secured with an internal bore 60 within block 50 which has a pair of springs 62, as clearly seen in FIG. 6, biasing a pair of balls 64 in a pair of bores 66 against vertical leg 54 of one of the angle beams 44 facilitating slidable movement guided by angle beams 54 as handle 58 turr s rod 56.
As c early shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, a lower sem1-circular ring portion 70 with horizontal flanges 72 extend ing from the ends thereof is welded or otherwise secured to a plate 74 which is in turn mounted to the top surface of block 50. Mountable over flanges 72 are corresponding flanges 74 horizontally extending from an upper ring portion 76. The inner surfaces of ring portions 76 and 70 are threaded to engage the external threads of a collar 80 which is mounted by means of a setscrew 82 to a shaft 84 having a handle 86 in one end thereof and an industrial diamond 88 at the tip of the other end. When a mounting wing nut or bolt 90 is loosened slightly, handle 86 can be turned to screw collar and shaft 84 closer or farther away from the surface of grinding wheel 22. When bolt is tightened sufficiently, the tension will be such that the threads of collar 80 and ring portions 70 and 76 will be too tightly pressed against each other for any movement possible due to vibration or inadvertence.
While a preferred embodiment of this invention has been illustrated and described, it will be understood by those skilled in the art and many changes and modifications may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
We claim:
