Abstract
683,844. Aerials. BELCHER (RADIO SERVICES), Ltd., and HOWELL, E. C. Aug. 1, 1951 [Aug. 2, 1950], No. 19316/50. Class 40 (vii). An attachment for an aerial system of the type having a dipole and a supporting arm at right angles thereto consists of an extension arm provided with means at one end for attaching it to the supporting arm and means at the other end for carrying an aerial system element parallel to the dipole. A common form of aerial system of the type specified comprises an H aerial consisting of a dipole 6, cross-arm 4, and reflector 7, the system being mounted on a mast 3. An attachment according to the invention may comprise a hollow tube 9 provided at one end with split-ring clamps 10 for attaching it to the cross-arm 4 and at the other end with a sleeve 11 which may carry a director element 8 secured in the sleeve by a bolt 12. In order that the elements 6, 7, and 8 shall lie in the same plane arm 9 is cranked to pass round insulator 5 supporting dipole 6. The extent of the cranking is preferably sufficient to enable the arm 9 to clear a folded dipole and to be adjustable along the arm 4 to vary the separation of elements 6 and 8. A strut 13 may be provided to give additional support to the extension arm.
