Abstract
500,528. Aerials. JUNKERS FLUGZEUG-UND MOTORENWERKE AKT.-GES. July 21, 1938, No. 21660. Convention date, July 21, 1937. [Class 40 (v)] A mast for mounting aerials on aircraft which is made of conductive material and is insulated from the aircraft body and from the aerial which it supports is adapted to serve as a rod aerial for apparatus other than that connected with the supported aerial. In Fig. 1 the aerial 3 is supported through insulators 5, 5<1> by the conductive mast 1 and the rudder pin 2 and is connected to the communication apparatus by the lead-in 4. The mast 1 in combination with the " sounding " frame 7 or dipole 8 forms the aerial system of an altitude " sounding " or landing apparatus. The mast 1 comprises a stream-lined metal tube 1 having a reinforcing sleeve 9 at its lower end, Fig. 2, mounted with the interposition of a weatherproof layer 10 in a cavity 11 in the insulator 6 which is secured to the frame 13 of the aircraft body. The lead-in 16 may be taken from the screen 12 securing the mast 1. A known form of mast is described in which the aerial is mounted on a hollow mast within which is arranged a rod aerial serving as part of the landing or " sounding " apparatus.
