Abstract
705,591. Aerials. SHARDLOW ELECTRIC WIRES, Ltd., and MOULTON, E. W. Dec. 13, 1951 [Dec. 13, 1950], No. 30458/50. Class 40 (7) An aerial for receiving high frequency radio transmissions such as television comprises a horizontal supporting boom 10 for a reflector R and director elements Dr1 and Dr2 and a folded dipole D as the pick-up element with the parasitic elements electrically connected to the boom 10 as well as supported thereby, whilst the folded dipole D is connected to the boom 10 at the centre of one length, the other length being broken for the connection at 21 of a feeder 20. The boom 10 is mounted on a vertical mast 11 at a point between the dipole element D and reflector R by means of a cup member 12 which is bolted to the top of the mast 11, the boom 10 being clamped between the cup and a saddle bolted thereon. The brackets 22 which unite the parasitic elements rigidly and electrically to the boom 10 each comprise two parts with bolts for clamping them together to grip the boom 10 and form aligned upper and lower sockets which grip the halfsections of the respective element, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown). The bracket for securing the dipole to the boom comprises two parts, the first clamped to the boom and the second clamped to the first with the centre of the continuous length of the dipole held between the two parts. At least one angular strut 23 is provided between the boom 10 and mast 11. The aerial structure as a whole may be used for normal broadcast reception. According to the Provisional Specification the folded dipole element is insulated from the boom by a short length of insulating tubing in the clamping bracket.
