Class 20(iii) To prevent air penetrating the joint spaces round the doors or windows of rooms or vehicles, a connection is made between radial points in the joint spaces and points outside the building by ducts through which air is extracted, as by suction applied to the radial points or by the duct network leading to points subject to a lower wind pressure. In a building having one or more pairs of windows 9, 10, one of which is exposed to and the other sheltered from the wind, each window frame has a duct 4 preferably aligned with the preceding portion of the joint 3 in the direction of air penetration and leading to a passage 8 with an outlet in the sheltered wall. In another arrangement the duct opens into the narrowest portion of a Venturi-like passage opening to the outside at both ends. The duct may comprise a slot running continuously or not along the inner side of the stile 1 and communicating at intervals with flared extensions 4<SP>1</SP>. A metal frame may have elongated slots of similar outline to the outer edge of outlets 4<SP>1</SP>.
