Abstract

683,477. Door-operating mechanism. BESSONNEAU, M. Nov. 1, 1949 [Nov. 5, 1948], No. 28015/49. Class 65 (i) [Also in Group XXXII] A panel sliding mechanism for closing an opening 3 in a motor car body is described for a sliding roof and comprises a panel 7 supported near its front and rear edges by coaxial pairs of rubber covered rollers 8, 9 running on bearing surfaces 6, 5, of runways 4. At its rear end the panel is linked by rods 12 and cheek pieces 13 to a carriage 11, which supports on each side a gear wheel 15 having ogival teeth co-operating with holes 16, Fig. 3, cut in the flange 5. A loose guiding roller 8 is mounted coaxially with the wheel 15, and additional rollers 8, 9 are provided on the carriage as shown so that the carriage with the panel 7 may be moved together along the runways by means of an electric motor fastened to the carriage. Current is supplied to the motor through cables 23 supported by hinged arms 24, 25, which' motor rotates the gear wheels 15 by means of a speed reducer 21, shaft 19, and Cardan shafts 18. Near the rear of the opening 3 the lower flanges 6 are cut away and raised to provide ramps 41 so that when the panel is nearing the end of its closing movement the rollers of the rods 12 move up the ramps and carry the rear end of the panel upwards to lie flush with the roof. In a modification, the panel is used to cover a hood storage space, the panel being driven over runways by a motor which may be connected to a carriage as described above, or be connected directly to the panel. The front of the panel is guided by self lubricating balls sliding over guide rods. Specification 637,871, [Group XXXII], is referred to.
