Abstract
560,255. Sliding windows and panels. BISHOP, W. H., and CLEMENTS, W. E. June 23, 1942, No. 8592. [Class 20- (iii)] [Also in Groups XXXII and XXXIII] A sliding window or panel 10 for aircraft, ships and road or rail vehicles is supported at one edge by brackets 14 and sliders 13 to slide on guide rails 15 curved towards the closed position, the other edge carrying a handle 18 which by lever mechanism raises this edge from a flanged frame 12 and enables the sliding window 10 to be slid behind a fixed window 11. On moving the handle 18 rearwardly a vertical rod 16 mounted in brackets 17 is rotated and with it short arms 19 keyed to the rod. The free ends of the arms 19 are each pivoted at 20 to a bell-crank 21 one end of which moves in a slot 23 and the other end carries a roller 25, so that when the arms are rocked by the handle 18, rollers 25 contact with abutments 27 and raise the edge of the window from the frame, as in Fig. 3, further backward movement of the handle causing the window to slide on guides 26, 15 behind the fixed window 11.
